Making A Difference One Family At A Time

The 6th annual “Pig Bowl” was once again a huge success. Every year since 2003 the Pig Bowl has chosen someone in the community that needs financial assistance. The Pig Bowl has assisted in raising money for a bone marrow transplant, the Special Olympics, a National Guard member who lost his leg in Iraq, a kidney transplant, and the surviving family of a fallen Sheriff’s Deputy.

In case you missed it, Papa Murphy’s Pizza, Pepsi and Safeway sponsored the concessions. Skamania Lodge once again donated two rounds of golf and a night’s stay for two for the always-entertaining “Survivor” half time contest. And what would the Pig Bowl be without pig noses, cheerleaders and a bounce house for the kids, there was even a surprise visit from an Imperial Officer, a Clone Trooper and Darth Vader from the “Cloud City Garrison of the 501st Legion”.

The 2008 Pig Bowl was played to benefit the Walter Family who is dealing with numerous medical concerns. Ready for the challenge, officers from Oregon and Washington representing 11 different agencies squared off in an old fashioned game of 8 man flag football. Last year it was Oregon winning the contest on the field 22 to 20, but this year had Washington victorious at 9 to 0.

More important than the actual score however, is the score on the scoreboard. Fans are allowed to purchase $50 touchdowns during the game for their favorite team. Last year Washington pre-sold numerous touchdowns to local businesses before the game even started. So after being demolished 593 to 224 in 2007 Oregon decided to pre-sell a few touchdowns of their own making this years final score 512 to 360 in favor of Oregon. This allowed us to present Brandon, Amanda, BJ & Makayla Walter with a check for $8713.

The truth is, we couldn’t have done it without you. Each and every person who donated their time, energy, effort and finances deserves more thanks and praises than we could ever give. Together we produced an evening of family fun that will live on as a tradition for many years to come. We pray for blessings on you and your families throughout the coming year.
