WHAT A NIGHT!
Pig Bowl 2011 is a thing of the past, but it will be talked about for years to come. Despite a beautiful 92 degree day, by game time dark clouds had rolled in and bad news was creeping in from every angle. Sprinkles of rain could be felt, lightning was flashing in the distance, and the wind was howling. Things continued to get worse… Long time Pig Referee Terry Stephens was hurt in a Friday night High School football game and wouldn’t be able to make it. Life Flight was forced to cancel at the last minute due to needed repairs and poor weather. The pig poster from 2009 was missing in action and just when I thought things couldn’t get anyworse, I learned that last years Pig Bowl Prayer Leader and close friend Pastor Steve Anabel had just passed away. Now, for those of you who don’t know Steve, Nobody, and I mean no one I have ever met, was more ready to go home and meet his creator than Pastor Steve. Then it struck me, In saying my goodbyes to Steve last month I had given him two specific instructions… Say hi to Jesus for me and “don’t forget about the Pig Bowl”. I told Steve to make sure he was there and boy did he ever help us out. Any worries I had about the weather disappeared instantly.
.
If you didn’t make it to the 2011 PIG BOWL you missed a MIRACLE. It was pouring down rain at Home Depot just a few blocks away, but it didn’t rain on the field. In fact, God sort of parted the waters if you will…. The Storm was coming right at us and then boom, that crazy storm split right in two and literaly went around both sides of the field! The wind died down, the bounce house went back up and the fans stayed in the stands until the final whistle!
.
THANKS STEVE! and THANK YOU JESUS for yet another Fabulous Pig Bowl Event.

FINAL SCOREBOARD SCORE: OREGON: 1206 WASHINGTON 1139
FINAL SCORE ON THE FIELD: OREGON: 30WASHINGTON 12
But the Highlight was when little 4 year old Storm McCoy came into the game with 32 seconds remaining and scored yet another touchdown for Oregon giving them a total of 36 points!
PIG BOWL MVP: Melissa Wykes
(Not only because she was all over the field making plays, pulling flags and catching long passes, but because she was a big help in collecting pre-game points for the Washington team – WAY TO GO MELISSA!)
HALFTIME SURVIVOR WINNER: Venus Allison
Congratulations Venus on your night stay and round of golf for two at KaNeeTa High Desert Resort and Casino!
ANOTHER HIGHLIGHT: Jessy Lyon
Jessy came out onto the field and spoke to the crowd… She told them about being last years Pig Bowl recipient and thanked them for their support, but my favorite line was when she said, “Last year I was in a wheel chair and this year I am not!”
Praise The Lord Jessy! We are all so happy for your continued recovery.
