The following information was recieved in an email from Rocky Garland Songer in September 2009…
I just wanted to tell you how much the Pig Bowl impacted our lives back in 2007. I used part of the money to get braces for my foster son, Chris, since the state kept refusing to do so and the dentist said he was going to lose four teeth otherwise. The rest of the money helped us survive. Other organizations donated to help us go to counseling camps for spouses of fallen officers and children of fallen officers. I feel very blessed to have had such support, and it made it a little easier to survive the death of my husband.
I have since remarried – a deputy from Elko County, NV – and I am happily settled into life in the high desert country of Nevada and I am the financial secretary for Shiloh Bible Church. I was able to attend last year’s Pig Bowl in 2008, I don’t know if we’ll make 2009’s… but I would LOVE to come.
The Pig Bowl does such a wonderful job supporting people in times of need, and I will be sending a donation to buy a touchdown or two! Thanks for being an important part of our lives!!
Hugs, Rocky Garland Songer
